3 million more social homes
Social housing provides people with a genuinely affordable and secure place to call home — somewhere they can lay the foundations for a good life. But over the last 40 years our supply of social housing has been decimated as a result of deliberate choices by successive governments.
This has led to a growth in the number of people reliant on the private rented sector, which is rife with poor quality, unaffordable and inaccessible housing. Since the early 2000s the proportion of private rented homes has almost doubled, while the number of social homes has continued to fall.
The only way to rebalance our housing system and ensure we all have a safe, affordable place to call home is to build more social housing: that’s why we’re calling for 3 million more social homes.
