Build power and win more social homes
A series of free workshops to boost your campaign and organising skills
London has some of the most experienced housing activists in the UK, and the most active housing movement of any major city. But it is still the worst affected by the housing crisis and experiencing gentrification at a rapid rate.
We are running 10 workshops throughout 2023 to work with 30 leaders and organisers in London to strengthen our organising strategy and win more social housing. This training programme is centred on winning more social housing and protecting existing ones, complementing our Homes for Us Campaign.
Through a series of fun and engaging sessions, you will learn and practise the art of storytelling, developing relationships through practising ‘one-to-ones’ with fellow organisers and receiving media support as well as learning about the history of the housing movement.
The key aims of the programme are:
- Help activists and groups directly to win more social housing or protect existing social housing
- Make sure London activists have the opportunity and resources to share their knowledge with other groups across the country and within the capital, to strengthen fights elsewhere.
- Help London groups find common cause with groups in other cities and put pressure on the national government to win more and better social housing.
We are particularly interested in hearing from people with lived experiences, people who are at the beginning of their campaigning journey, young people and from communities that are traditionally underrepresented in the housing movement.
Come to our kick-off social in Vauxhall on 1 August and meet your fellow participants. This will be followed by monthly 2‑hour sessions from Sep 2023 to May 2024.
This event aims to be fully accessible; we will be covering expenses and any mobility needs. If you have any further access requirements you need us to accommodate, please contact Sadaf Moosvi at sadaf.moosvi@neweconomics.org to let us know.
